A box in the front office
Each school gets a snack box placed wherever the staff wants it. Students ask, grab what they need, and head back to class.
Camano Island, Washington
Room for Blooming keeps a stocked snack box in the front office of Camano Island elementary schools, so a hungry kid can grab something to eat and get back to learning.
Simple, quiet, and always within reach.
Each school gets a snack box placed wherever the staff wants it. Students ask, grab what they need, and head back to class.
Everything is easy to eat or heat. Fruit cups, granola bars, chips, trail mix, and microwaveable mac and cheese, with no nuts at all.
We buy what each school asks for and refill the boxes as they empty, so the shelf is never bare when a student needs it.
Learning is hard on an empty stomach. Room for Blooming was started on Camano Island by Emily and Scotty Brown to make sure students have food within reach during the school day, without paperwork, without lines, and without anyone having to explain why they are hungry.
We start with both Camano Island elementary schools and work directly with each school's staff to choose the foods that work best for their students. As the community grows with us, so will the number of boxes we can fill.
There is a place for everyone who wants to help.
